Be Still

Consider that when we embrace solitude…

• We intentionally remove the influence of others for period of time.
• We intentionally remove the expectations of others.
• We are able to hear our own heart speak.
• We find rest and refreshment.
• We discover that others can live without us.
• We find that the world does not rest on our shoulders.
• We can adequately reflect on our past and chart our future.
• We break the cycle of busyness in our lives.
• We become better equipped to show patience with others.
• We feed our souls.

Solitaire, Anyone?

During the winter break, I asked the Hermit Club if anyone was up for a little double solitaire online over the holidays. I was being facetious, but as you can see if you click on the link, this can actually be done. Maybe I'll ask again next winter.

To make it more simple and more solitary for the time being, I grabbed a little widget to accommodate the true hermits among us. ;-)

Return to Silence

Having given fanfare where fanfare is due, I should probably return this little page to a quiet mode. If you disagree, then you can skip over Joshua Bell and his beautiful nocturne . . . scroll down some more . . . and find Michael Bublé feelin’ good at the end of this list of meditative music. *smile*

As there is no real “hermitizing” in sight for me, I have been grabbing little bits of quiet where I can: driving alone, disappearing acts in the middle of the day (“Where’s mom?”), burning the midnight oil after patting little heads goodnight, watching half of a movie, more driving alone, etc.

Oh, for a day of retreat!

It is tired, and I’m getting late. Sweet dreams, hermits all.

Simply Grand

“1000 (one thousand) is the natural number following 999 and preceding 1001,” says Wikipedia.

Surely there is more to say about such a number, isn’t there? After all, when we hold a thousand dollars in our fist (every day), don’t we call it a “grand?”

Congrats, my friend! I enjoyed watching the SHH My H'Art in Rubber hit counter top 1000 this afternoon. I think that’s just grand!

Shh?

We interrupt this silence and solitude to bring you a little surprise.

You see, I’ve been keeping a close eye on a friend’s blog, watching as it blossoms with the rest of spring. And, what an unfolding!

In my watching, I have been also waiting – specifically, I’ve been looking toward the day that her hit counter reached 699. ;-)

I’ll explain.

Last week, my children and I were riding in the car, and one of my girls spotted an interesting license plate and called my attention to it, “Look, Mom . . . SHH!” Another of my team whipped out the camera, placed it on the dashboard, and the chase was on!

We followed this vehicle, changing lanes many times with it, as it appeared to be avoiding us. (Maybe the driver thought she was being followed?) One glance in the rear view window would have certainly confirmed her suspicions; the camera was pretty conspicuous.

Anyway, we finally stopped directly behind the car at a traffic light. Gotcha!

*smile*

Well, that was quick! We certainly didn’t have long to wait to share the snapshot. As of this morning, My H’art in Rubber crossed the 699 mark into the 700’s, and we are smiling.

Congratulations, SHH! Love those stats! We are so happy for you that your blog has generated so much interest. It is such an inviting spot. Thank you for sharing it all with us!

Introducing: The Hermit Chat Room

Perhaps it is not the ultimate oxymoron, but I think it's pretty close -- and it amuses me. ;-)

My first two attempts to create a spot for hermit chatting were absolute failures. On my initial try, I only succeeded in creating a board. Close, but not quite what I wanted. Then, I created this blog and tried to add a chat gadget. Every single chat widget was broken. I began to wonder if the word "hermit" was preventing such additions.

Finally, I found an alternate route . . . See Hermit dance. Dance hermit, dance.
